Here is a review of our February 2003 Cabaret taken from the Bridgwater

"Magical night out from the Musicals"
RED Hot Musicals presented by the Marketeers Carnival Club at Chilton School
proved a magical night out. Four talented stars performed popular songs from
top musicals to an enthusiastic audience, willing to applaud in all the right
places and join in when encouraged. Two guys and two girls, all having appeared
in the West End, were accompanied by two energetic dancers, Claire and Rachel.
The singers took' turns to delight the packed hall with popular tunes - varying
from the shivers down the spine duet "Last Night of the World"' from
Miss Saigon, to the fun tunes of South Pacific, including "Gonna Wash That
Man Right Out Of My Hair."
The dramatic songs from Les Miserable, particularly "Hear-My Prayer"
were performed just as ably as the old traditional ones like "You'll Never
Walk Alone" with the tell tale hands from the audience waving along in
the air. A selection of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals were well received,
from Whistle Down the Wind, Cats, Music of the Night and of course Phantom.
The star of the show, however, had to be the comedy entertainer Phill Lowen
– and what a character he was. From the moment he appeared on the stage
he had an instant reaction and had everyone in stitches of laughter. His comedy
seemed to be at first a bit of a mixture of Michael Barrymore and Dame Edna
Everage! His cheeky routine was a real tonic, hardly stopping to draw breath
as he went from one subject to another reeling off jokes and funny stories without
having to revert to the usual smut - a refreshing change.
He was an able mimic with old classics like "Geoffrey" and "Bungo"
from the children's programme Rainbow, which he had perfected, to his finale
and most hilarious take-off - his interpretation of Pavarotti -you just had
to be there!
The music was provided throughout the evening by Paul, Andy and Paul, on the
guitar, drums and keyboard. Well done to the Marketeers Carnival Club for providing
a refreshing and battery charging night out, well organised and well received.
