The World Famous Official News-Letter of the
MARKETEERS CARNIVAL CLUB
Chairman: Steve Wright Captain: Alan Windsor Treasurer: Ian Barber Secretary: Mark Cheffy
What’s that coming over the hill
Since the last Newsletter the club have attended quite a few Carnivoo events and presentations, and of course we took a healthy bus load to the Bridgwater Carnival Presentation Dinner where (although it didn’t pass of without incident) everyone had a good time, a couple of stories to tell and a bellyful of beer to come home with. The Christmas Cabaret came and went, a crowd of over 350 punters (and unfortunately not many waiters) crammed into Chilton school to see a wonderful show that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Fair play to everyone there who attended the cabaret either setting up in the day or the waitering/serving on the night, as everyone worked extremely hard and the event couldn’t have been a success without every single one of you.
Christmas soon arrived and everyone was in the party mood, with a long weekend of Break-up Friday (that’s from work not the missus), the usual Sat Night and Xmas Eve ahead, the liver braced itself for a heavy weekend of drinking. And so it began, with what seemed most the town and almost the whole carnival club out on the town with their fellow workmates, everyone was in the Xmas mood. Most things are unclear, but I definitely remember seeing Hodger.
After dying for the whole of Sat - I didn’t manage to raise myself away from the bed (even to watch Utd on Arabic T.V) I met up with some of the clubs finest for some Xmas Eve drinks. What we promised would be a civilised couple of pre Christmas drinks soon turn into the anarchic drunken shambles we all know and love. With some of the braver (or stupider) of the Marketeers ending up in Remedies to stupid O’clock in the morning. Boxing Day arrived and for those of us without responsibility we waited patiently outside the pub for it to open! Again what started quite civilised soon ended up in a drunken mess, with the Marketers who were out, dancing the night away to the sounds of the greatest DJ’s to ever set foot behind a record player (I think they may have been called DJ Windsor, DJ Chicken and DJ Trev Seabum)
The New Year came and went and we were soon back in to the full swing of things with regards to carnival meetings and the such. The idea was accepted by the Bridgwater Carnivoo Committee and idea meetings began in earnest.
With Captain Matt Knapp resigning as captain for personal reasons just before Xmas, Trev Seabourne amply took the reigns for the few meetings up to the AGM.
The Club AGM took place on Monday 22nd January in the Mansion House (details of new committee later on in the Newsletter). The election of officers took place and a few new rules for members came into force.
It’s now coming up to February 2007, a new year is already one twelfth over and there are only 8 months to Concerts and 9 months to Bridgwater Carnivoo. The stage and road draws have been done (same stage times as last year - 2nd from last in the second half of the first week, and second from last in the first half the second week & about the 8th Bridgwater Club on road)
The date for the pontoon dinner has been set (24th Feb 2007) at Bar 27, St Mary Street, Bridgwater. Everyone should have received a letter and form about the event; however, if you have not, please don’t hesitate to contact me on the usual number, these forms need to be returned to me or Jason Brazewell by Saturday 10th Feb, which conveniently is the date of the February Cabaret. The 5 course meal is priced at £19 pp and this includes a free drink and your night’s entertainment.
If anyone can help at the February Cabaret it would be extremely appreciated, especially in the evening/night time, where an extra pair of hands is always welcome.
Hopefully will see the majority of you at the Cabaret and also the pontoon dinner, until then have a great few weeks and may I wish you a belated Happy New Year.
Alan.
