The Cupboard Monster So good they named it twice!! Hello one and all, hope you all enjoyed your summer break and are now back enjoying the daily grind of life, as we know it. Since the last newsletter England were well and truly dumped out of the World Cup and even Terry and Kevin Groves leading the cheering from in Germany wasn’t enough motivation for the boys to bring the trophy back. Perhaps the feeling of despair that accompanied the England teams return to our shores has been lodged with the Marketeers ever since. Attendance at club meetings has once again dipped and so has the work-rate from the majority of the membership. Also unfortunately Paul Brazewell (purveyor of fine meats) reported that only 7 VP’s turned up at the recent VP meeting. However it all hasn’t been Doom & Gloom, it’s now only 4 weeks to carnival concerts and rehearsals are in full swing and attendance at rehearsals (holidays exempt) has been promising. The club had two good trips out to say farewell to Allan & Jo Elson. Who have set out on their around the World Trip (their first destination was New York which I’m told they thoroughly enjoyed, followed by a trip to Buffalo). And speaking personally I had a fantastic time on both occasions, the same can’t be said for the next morning though. The whole month of August has been extremely busy, with a fund-raising bar every weekend. Thanks on behalf of the committee for the people that have put themselves out to help with these events; your help is invaluable. On the Bank Holiday Sunday, the club held a sponsored bike ride. After spending the first 15minutes discussing at length were we intended on riding we all had a very enjoyable day! I know anyone that’s ever been on one of our bike rides will confirm what fantastically enjoyable day it is, and although it is a fun day out it raises some much needed funds for the club. Hopefully in future we could see more peeps out just to enjoy the day itself. If you walked into the shed on Sunday 3rd September you would have been in for a surprise, some of the more liberated Male element of Marketeers decided to try and emulate what the Ladies did last year and posed for our very own Calendar Girls style calendar. These will be on sale very soon, if you’d like one please contact one of the members. The Cabaret came and went, and a big thanks to every one of you who came down to help both I the day and the night, we couldn’t have done it without you. With Carnival fast approaching, there is lots of work to be done out the ‘Halfway’ all help will be extremely appreciated and there are peeps out the cart almost every night. Also if anyone is able to help with the carrying of props, over the two weeks concert period, all help would be gratefully received. Please contact Steve Wright who will be organising the props (the good news is, they are lighter than last year). With me signing off, may I wish Marketers all the best for both Concerts and Road, and lets hope we are all celebrating on the 14th October and 3rd November respectively. No matter what the results let’s do what we do best, stick together, enjoy ourselves and most importantly have a bloody good time doing it. See you soon – Alan Windsor News 2006 Club Officers Vice Chairman - Shaun Ford Chairman of The Vice President Association – Paul Brazewell Hope you found issue 6, of the Cupboard Monster mildly interesting, all previous editions can be viewed on our Internet site www.marketeerscc.co.uk and any news or questions can be directed to a committee member or by emailing us through the above Internet address. I’m sure we will see the majority of you during the months of October and November. And here’s wishing Marketeers the best of luck in everything they do. |
