Official News Letter of the

MARKETEERS CARNIVAL CLUB

Chairman: Steve Wright Captain: Matt Knapp Treasurer: Ian Barber Secretary: Alan Windsor

Like a hole in the Head

Hello, sorry for the delay between issues, I’m sure you have missed your monthly (ish) update of all things in the wonderful world of Marketeers.

The last time, I wrote to you about the trips to Portugal for Jones Stag weekend, and the highly enjoyable Old Folks Show.

Since then Jones has been married on Las Vegas on the Bridge of the Starship Enterprise (as featured in the Bridgwater Mercury. And no, that wasn’t Jones on the front page with his new bride) and he was followed into deep space, by Chunk, Gadger, Neil Underwood, Steve Wright, Horney and their respective partners (anything to get out of a cabaret?!?) . Jones also had a blessing in Bridgwater and had a huge party for everyone at the Town Hall.

In April the Club took part in their annual sponsored Bike Ride. Kenny Rogers was the first casualty of the day, when the Gears on his brand new Bike failed. On the spot maintenance from Richard Radford has left Kennys bike with only 1 of the 18 gears usable. Alan Windsor was the next unfortunate member of our throng. When his attempt at ‘Wheeling’ up the kerb left his bike in pieces, ever the trooper though he swapped bikes with Gadger and made it to the end, whilst Gadger gallantly rode Alan’s Bike back to the safety of the Old Market. Well done Phil.

May Saw the Cabaret come and go, and also the latest instalment of the VP’s quiz. This was hosted by Gary Chidgey and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The eventual winners were once again, Alan Windsor, Matt Knapp, Mark Webber and Neal Tucker. The Brokeback Mountain boys reigned supreme again (albeit by 1 point).

As I’m sure you are all aware, the World Cup Finals began in June and England were strongly fancied to go all the way. The fleet footed skills on display at said world cup have been beyond compare. That is of course until you come to a Marketeers Carnival concert rehearsal, with a regular game of piggy-in-the-middle or one-bounce, taking place before every rehearsal, it is easy to see where Sven went wrong. Unfortunately the usual footy geniuses who grace us with their presence (namely Kevin groves and Paul ‘Dingle’ Radford) are not on stage this year, but we have recruited some more talent that is bound to keep us entertained over the summer and autumn months.

July has begun and before you know it, will surely be over. Therefore I hope you all have a very enjoyable month and if you off on your hols, have a great time and don’t forget the postcard.

Best Wishes

Alan Windsor
