MARKETEERS CARNIVAL CLUBChairman: Steve Wright Captain: Alan Windsor Treasurer: Dave Kirk Jnr Secretary: Adrian Horne New Year – New Start Hello there, I hope everyone had an enjoyable festive season and has now recovered from any amount of excess that you indulged in. As many of you will know, work on the new shed has been progressing (albeit with a few hold-ups all out of our control, weather etc) and work will soon be nearing completion. It is a tremendous effort from everyone that has been involved in the fund-raising for the new premises and the construction of it. And I’m sure once completed a great feeling of satisfaction will sink in. Obviously, as well as building a new shed, the club has to get back on more familiar ground and build a stage show and carnival cart. Having seen the cart drawing, if we build it we will definitely give ourselves as good a chance as anyone of claiming some of the top prizes. Obviously though none of this will be possible without hard-work and dedication both on the building and fundraising fronts. With fundraising in mind the club has a couple of events coming up in February (Quiz night & Cabaret) and all support is welcomed. On the fund raising front, the club has picked up quite a bit of work after we impressed the organisers at last years Somer-rock. Therefore I ask you all to please look at the dates (located in the news section of the newsletter) and check you diaries to see if you are able to assist the club in any of these functions. This is a fantastic opportunity for the club to raise the much needed money for what we hope will be a cracking 50th year and one to remember for everyone. As you are all probably aware, the Old Folks Show approaches us and as ever the club is looking for people to take part in this fun show. This year’s idea has been put in and we are doing Grover’s favourite idea – school children. If you would like to take part please contact myself, Tim Knapp or Chunk for more details. The recent weeks has seen an influx of members joining the club, some are new members and some are members coming back to the fold. Hopefully the mixture of youth and experience will see the club well trhough the 50th year and on well into the future, and on behalf of the club I would like to welcome you all the Marketeers and hope you have as great a time as hundreds of us have in the past , present and (hopefully) future. With an influx of young blood recently and at their request the club has decided to re-enter the Bridgwater Gangs & Features sports cup. The first few draws have been made and we are to face the following clubs Darts – MCC v Newmarket, Euchre – MCC v Cavaliers, Pool – Wills v MCC (dates for all fixtures to be arranged). If you would like to take part in these (or any of the other sports) please contact the newly appointed Cheers -Wins
