Hello there,

Long time no see. I Hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter break.

Well what’s happened since I last wrote (back in January), well the AGM came and went (with a few alterations to the club committee, details at bottom of newsletter). Also since then, we have had the annual pontoon dinner – congrats to all the winners and the February cabaret which was once again well supported by both the public and the club.

The club has also held a quiz (won by Mr and Mrs President, Terry Pickett and Nick ‘spunkchops’ Hallet) but unfortunately, this was not as well supported as it has been in the past. With money getting ever tighter and a need to build on last year’s success, it is hoped that the next one will be better supported by both the membership and the VP association.

Also since the last newsletter, the club had a photograph taken with all the trophies we won last year, if anyone would like a copy please speak to me. These are £6 each and I need payment with your order.

The Old folks show was again a resounding success with us once again putting on a show to be proud off and one that the Old Folks loved. For those of you who didn’t witness it, this year we were Chippendales and B Funny-girls. With all the young ones (including me) oiled up as Chippendales, and the older more decrepit ones being the bunny-girls, it was certainly a site to be-hold. If any of you wish to view it, I’m sure it will be on www.bridgwater-photos.co.uk sooner or later.

The stage committee have been meeting regularly, and even with Stage Co-ordinator Ian barber snapping his leg in 6 places (in an horrific skiing accident, well I say horrific, he fell over to be fair), a format for the stage show is now set.

Work out halfway has been steadily progressing and the cart is now completely stripped and work has began in earnest to repeat (and hopefully better) last years prize haul. If anyone is free on a Wednesday night, then please feel free to pop along to the halfway and lend some of your time to the cart building guys.

Some good news from recent weeks, is that the club has secured the contract to supply bar staff and stewards for the vastly popular local event known as Somer-rock, this is being held on the 25th July and will require all hands on pump from all aspects of the club, so please if you are available that day/night keep us a space in your diary as we are going to need a lot of support from both the membership and the Vp’s/associates.

And finally, one last thing. Contrary to recent rumours circulating on a certain website, The Marketeers Carnival Club has not left the halfway inn. And at present the club intends on building out the halfway inn for the foreseeable future.

Position in Club – Babs 80’s dance partner

Reason you joined – I wanted to follow in the footsteps of previous Highbridge and Marketeers Legends Dapman and Dobbin

Involvement with Club –Music expert, top dancer and a core part of the Real Marketeers Drinking club

Favourite memory of your time with the Club – Dacing like a lord when we had George Michael at the cabaret or meeting the all time Highbridge legend – Dapman at a recent event.

Ambition for the future – to provide the voice for Dangermouse in a remake of the 80’s classic cartoon

Position in Club – The very bottom (albeit above Grover)

Reason you joined – to follow in the long and illustrious footsteps of previous Marketeers to hail from the home of the pikey - Highbridge

Involvement with Club – Being shouted at by Windsor and sexually abused by Grover

Favourite memory of your time with the Club – every time I get to drive out of Highbridge is a blessing, so anytime I have to do anything for the club that involves leaving there.

Ambition for the future – scotch eggs to be given away on the NHS and for chunky dunster to be voted in as conservative mayor of Highbridge

Mastermind – the next Quiz night is being held Friday 1st May at the Blake Arms Hotel Function room, please make an effort to attend and help to raise the club some much needed funds.
Cabaret Showtime – The next Cabaret is Sat 16th May; once again, we will be looking for extra help from all aspects of the club on the night of the Cabaret. This is vitally important as the last cabaret was such a success due to the help and support we received from all aspects of the club. Please please make a note of the date in your diaries and come down to lend us a hand.
Somer-Rock – as mentioned previously in the newsletter, we gained the contract to provide Bar Staff and Stewards at the event, please keep Sat 25th July free in your diary, as we will need help from as many people as possible at this event.
Sponsored Lorry Pull – in an effort to raise some much needed funds, the club will be doing a lorry pull on August 15th. Sponsor forms and details to follow.
50th Anniversary celebrations – a date and a venue have been booked, Saturday 5th June 2010 @ Chilton Trinity School, please make a note of this in your diary as would like to see as many there as possible. More details coming soon
