The Cupboard Monster MARKETEERS CARNIVAL CLUBChairman: Steve Wright Captain: Alan Windsor Treasurer: Dave Kirk Jnr Secretary: Mark Cheffy
Hello one and all, I hope every one is ok and enjoying our wonderful British summer. As I write this it is currently p#**ing it down and doesn’t look like stopping, July and the beginning of august was a busy few weeks for the club. We had quite a few bars; one in particular was a complete disaster obviously when we were told that 3busloads of people were coming we expected them to want a drink, however this wasn’t to be. I apologise on behalf of the club to the people who put themselves out to help us, as ever the club was and is extremely grateful and appreciate all your efforts. However it wasn’t a completely useless month for fundraising we had a couple other bars that have bought in some much needed funds. We also had the quiz, which again was a nicely successful night (if once again poorly supported by both the membership and the VP association) it would be nice if we were able to have a much better turnout for these nights as they are a fun enjoyable night out and could really raise the club a lot of money. Congratulations are in order to John Turner and his team for a fine victory, in a quiz which became a battle of wills against the teams and the quizmaster. The next quiz is currently being planned and hopefully a great turnout from everyone will bring in some well needed funds to help push us along. Also coming up on the FUNdraising front is the annual sponsored bike ride, as pointed out in the last newsletter if everyone that receives this was to raise £10 the bike ride would be worth in excess of £1000 to the club. Please make a concerted effort to come on the day or if you can’t come please try and gain some sponsorship for YOUR club. In the last month some terrific work has been going on out the cart, and a hearty well done to everyone that has been putting time in out there. To help push things on a bit the club will be holding 2 working weekends out there in the coming weeks, the 1st one will be Sat 30th & Sun 31st August followed by another on Sat 13th & Sun 14th Sept. it would be good to see everyone for an hour or so over the weekends and I’m sure those that haven’t been out there will be quite surprised at the effort that has gone into it. Also in the month just gone we went on Adrian Horne’s Stag day, with 30odd blokes clad in pink cowboy hats, pink shirts and pink skirts we were definitely a site for sore eyes. After touring the length and breadth of Somerset we were soon back in Bridgwater enjoying some of our local hostelries hospitality. Let it be said the Saturday was much more fun than the Sunday following it. Also in July Rehearsals have begun in earnest and as we speak are going extremely well, hopefully if the great work continues on both the stage on road side of things we can be challenging for major honours on both. But of course to be able to do this we need much needed funds, so once again please support the club in our upcoming events and let’s makes 2008 one of Marketeers Carnival Clubs all time great years. With me rapidly running out of things to say I will leave you to your own devices for now, hope to see you all soon and fingers crossed the weather gets better. Last but not least t-shirt forms are out (1attached to this letter) these need to be returned to me with full payment by Monday 25th August. Have a great month and hope to see you on the 12th September at the Quiz – Windsor
