MARKETEERS CARNIVAL CLUB

Chairman: Steve Wright Captain: Alan Windsor Treasurer: Dave Kirk Jnr Secretary: Mark Cheffy

Long time no See

Hello there peeps, how is everyone? It seems an absolute age since I last sat down at my pc and made up a few pages of drivel. Anyhow I’m sure you all missed it so here we go.

First and foremost as part of my captain duties, I would like to thank every single one of you who has helped Marketeers this past year, at times you made me pull my hair out (luckily I got loads unlike some ) and at times you made me so proud I could have shed a tear (but obviously I’m far too macho for that – unlike some)

But from the bottom of my heart, thanks for everything you have done, my good friend Grover will but you a drink when he next sees you as a token of my thanks.

Right now on with the serious stuff

Stage came and went, and with a thoroughly enjoyable stage show and some positive comments from the public, we were hoping for a top 4 finish. Unfortunately the judges weren’t as happy with the show as we or the public were, and unfortunately we finished just out of the places. I’m sure everyone who went on the stage or came out with us at any point over the fortnight will agree what a terrific time we all had, and a very big thanks to Jayne and Trev in The Old Market for the food and the discos.

And of course. A big well done to Garry ‘Chicken’ Martin for making 12 out of the 13 nights the nights that he was there was worth the hangover alone.

Once concerts were over, the real hard-work was on there. The gang of Marketeers who had been out the cart during Concerts had done a fine job and the cart was looking in good shape.

Things soon went all to pot though and things started falling behind. Perhaps it was the extra week so people became complacent and left early or maybe it was down to the fact that we didn’t have as many people out there as in previous years, but one thing was certain – We were in trouble.

But somehow as we manage most years (and with a bit a leniency from the Committee) we managed to pull out of the shed.

What was achieved in the last 36 hours by the club was nothing short of a miracle, I’m sure everyone who was out there would agree and the pictures to illustrate the fact are on line at www.marketeerscc.co.uk or
www.bridgwater-photos.co.uk

The carnivals came and went and with a little harder work by everyone during the carnival season maybe we could have pushed for some more placed finishes than we got.

After the carnivals we as usual went to various parties and done what no other club in carnival can match us for, and that’s have fun. The noise created when Marketeers get a few beers inside of them is one that has to been seen or heard to be believed. Singing on the way home came back with a vengeance and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

After carnival the club held a De-briefing AGM and although the mood wasn’t as positive as I had hoped, I feel it did have a positive influence on the club (a record turn-out at cabaret for one), and long may it continue. May I also say was good to see so many people there and interested in the future of our club.

With the future of the club in mind, the AGM has been set for Monday 14th January at The Mansion House, High Street, Bridgwater.

This will begin at 20:00 prompt. Any new rule proposals need to be in paper and handed to the secretary on or before the night in question.

Please make an effort to attend, if you can’t please inform a member of committee (numbers at bottom of newsletter)

Also on next year, the date for the pontoon dinner has been set (letters attached) this is Saturday 1st March at Bar 27, St Mary Street.

Finally on behalf of myself and the rest of the committee may I wish you a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous 2008. I hope to see you out over the festive period. If not, eat lots and drink more.

Best Wishes - Windsor
