Marketeers Carnival Club 2006

Following allegations being made on Friday 3rd November that Ramblers Carnival Club had broken the Conditions of Entry into Bridgwater Carnival a panel was set up to hear the allegations with Ramblers Carnival Club present to defend themselves. After hearing all the evidence the panel found the allegations to be upheld.

It was subsequently decided that Ramblers Carnival Club should drop a position due to their infringement of the Conditions of Entry.

The outcome of this will mean that in Class 2 & 4 (Tableau & Feature Local), Marketeers Carnival Club will now move to second place with Ramblers Carnival Club dropping to third place, in addition Ramblers Carnival Club will now share the Lions International Cup with Vagabonds Carnival Club.

Ramblers Carnival Club appealed against the above ruling and an independent appeal panel unconnected with Bridgwater Carnival heard both cases on Wednesday 14 November.

The statement below has been agreed with both Ramblers Carnival Club and the Bridgwater Carnival Committee and brings this matter to a close.

An appeal meeting was held on Wednesday 14 November to hear Ramblers Carnival Club appeal against the Bridgwater Carnival Committee decision to drop them one place in the Bridgwater procession.

The appeal panel consisted of officers from other carnivals in order that an independent panel could hear all the evidence and make a decision that both Ramblers Carnival Club & the Bridgwater Carnival Committee had agreed to abide by. The panel consisted of Don Clifford (Shepton Mallet), Fred Maidment (Wells) and Tony Frazier (Glastonbury).

The hearing lasted three hours with witnesses and written statements being presented by both sides.

The panel after much deliberation gave their ruling to all present that in their opinion the Ramblers Carnival Club had broken the rules of Bridgwater Carnival as charged.

In order to bring this matter to a close Ramblers Carnival Club whilst still maintaining their innocence reluctantly accept there is no further course of action to take.

The ruling made earlier by the committee panel that Ramblers Carnival Club drop one place to third and changes to cup awards will now stand.
